Alicante Airport is nine kilometers southwest of Alicante on the east coast of Spain. It is the entrance gateway to Costa Blanca, an important tourist destination. The airport processes a majority of international flights from and to Great-Britain, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Sweden. In 2015 10,5 million passengers travelled through Alicante Airport. The number of passengers rose to 12,3 million in 2016.
The Alicante airport was opened in 1967, still then under the name 'El Altet'. The new airport replaced the old airport 'La Rabassa'. Since the opening the airport has been regularly expanded, the last large renovation was in 2011, when the old Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) were closed and one new Terminal (Terminal N) was opened.
From Alicante Airport you can fly to about 83 destinations. Important destinations for the airport are London-Gatwick, Manchester, Amsterdam, East Midlands, Birmingham, Barcelona, Oslo, Brussels and Madrid. The airport is used mostly by low cost airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling and Norwegian Air.
